SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship is one of the Cardinal Principles for the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  Omega Psi Phi allocates a portion of its international budget to scholarships and each local chapter has a program dedicated to students in their geographical area.

Frank Dunlap Memorial Scholarship

Applications can be downloaded below, and are also available through Guidance Offices at public High Schools in Prince William County, Stafford County, Manassas, and Manassas Park. 

Criteria

Applicants for the Franklin Dunlap Memorial Scholarship must be: 

  • An African American male
  • A U.S. citizen
  • Enrolled in a Prince William County, Stafford County, Manassas or Manassas Park Public School.
  • A graduating high school senior
  • Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of  2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

The application submission must include the following:

  • Two Letters of Recommendations
  • A letter written by a high school teacher or counselor
  •  A letter written by a person from a Community Organization, Church, etc.
  • An official copy of high school transcript (with official seal)
  • A 700-750 word typewritten, double-spaced essay.  See the application for the essay question. 

We are looking for students who have actively participated and demonstrated leadership in high school and community activities or services.  A personal interview by telephone or in person with the Pi Lambda Lambda Scholarship Committee is also potentially a part of the application process.

A total of eleven (11) individual scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $31,000.   Eight (8) scholarships will be awarded to young men attending a four-year college or university.  The 1st and 2nd place winners will receive scholarships in the amount of $10,000 and $6,000, respectively.  We will distribute each of these scholarships over a two-year period in increments of $5,000 and $3,000, respectively.  The first increment will be issued in the fall of 2017.  The second increment will be issued in the fall of 2018 contingent upon student maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale. Other scholarship awards will be in the amounts of: $2,500; $2,000; $1,500 (3 each); and $1,000.  Three (3) scholarships will be awarded to young men attending a two-year Junior or Community College.  The amounts are $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000.

George M. Hampton Foundation Scholarship

The GMHF Scholarship is affiliated with the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter.

Criteria

Each applicant for the George M. Hampton Foundation Scholarship must be a graduating High School senior, a U.S. citizen, a resident of Prince William County, Stafford County, Manassas, or Manassas Park, and attend a High School in the aforementioned areas.  The students must fulfill the criteria established by the George M. Hampton Foundation which includes academic achievement as evidenced by a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or greater.

 

Each student is required to submit an application along with:

  • an essay
  • a transcript
  • two letters of recommendations (one faculty, one community)
  • Provide proof acceptance from an accredited college(s) or university(ies) for the upcoming school year
  • one page biographical sketch
  • a copy of ACT or SAT results

Be available for a thirty-minute interview at the student’s high school with the George M. Hampton Foundation Scholarship Committee if the committee requests.
