Omega U students received a lecture and hands-on experience in the art of music and being a Disk Jockey (DJ). DJ SO-N-SO (Brother Corey Davis, PLL 2015) and Brother Dwight Rayford (Psi AlphaL 2009) from Gold Boot Entertainment. The Omega Men gave a riveting lecture on DJ’ing and the history of R&B & Hip Hop with demonstrations and tutorials for Omega U students on December 3, 2016, at Potomac Middle School. Students were given an opportunity to showcase their DJ skills in the areas of beat breaks, crab scratching, song transition/blending, and proportional reasoning for music cutting techniques on the 70s, 80s, and present day music selections from R&B, Rock, and Hip Hop genre. Students learned about entrepreneurial management, marketing, contracts, and the importance of practice, preparation, and hard work to be successful in life. Brother Davis is a professional DJ in addition to being a full-time civlian employee of a Defense sector company.
This event occurred as part of the recurring monthly first Saturday PLL Omega U scheduled activities. Omega U is the youth mentorship program of Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., an international nonprofit social and civic service organization that has over 700 chapters with 100,000 members in 14 countries worldwide.
Since the Chapter’s founding in Dumfries, Virginia in January 2004, PLL has supported public and community events across the region benefiting scholarship, health promotion, youth mentorship, citizenship, and social action. Pi Lambda Lambda (PLL) was recently named the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated International Chapter of the Year Award. This recognition marks the third time since the Chapter’s founding in 2004 that PLL was honored with the most prestigious honor bestowed by the Fraternity.
